Sensory Friendly Activities at FloridaRAMA: Sensory Saturday

Updated: Aug 12

A Calmer, Inclusive Way to Explore

At FloridaRAMA, we’re all about celebrating the curious, the creative, and the downright strange, but we also know that everyone experiences the world in their own unique way. That’s why once a month, we host Sensory Saturday, a dedicated time where the space transforms into a more accessible and calming environment for guests seeking sensory friendly activities in St. Pete.

Whether you’re neurodivergent, sensitive to sound and light, or visiting with someone who is, this monthly event is designed to ensure everyone feels seen, supported, and safe.

FloridaRAMA sensory-friendly map highlighting low-stimulation zones, headphone areas, and gentle touch exhibits—perfect for guests seeking sensory friendly activities in St. Pete.

Sensory Friendly Activities at FloridaRAMA

We make thoughtful, experience-enhancing adjustments across the exhibit to reduce sensory overload while still preserving the wonder and weirdness of FloridaRAMA.

🔉 Lower Music Volume

We reduce background music levels throughout the exhibit to create a softer, more peaceful atmosphere. Guests can explore comfortably without the distraction of loud or sudden sounds.

🧭 Sensory Signage

We use visual signage to indicate sensory zones; from quiet, low-traffic areas to those with more activity or brighter lighting. This helps visitors plan their routes and choose the experiences that work best for them.

🎒 Complimentary Sensory Bags

Available at the ticketing desk (just ask!), these bags include tools to make the visit more enjoyable:

  • Noise-canceling headphones to help buffer sound

  • Sunglasses for guests with light sensitivities

  • Fidget and sensory toys to support self-regulation

  • A drawing activity for when a quiet creative break is needed

Guests are welcome to check these out at no additional cost and return them when they're done exploring.

A Museum Experience That Moves at Your Pace

At FloridaRAMA, we believe inclusive design isn’t just good practice, it’s essential. We created Sensory Saturday to invite guests who might normally avoid loud, overstimulating environments to explore immersive art on their own terms.

Whether you're a parent with a sensory-seeking child, an adult looking for a low-stim option, or someone navigating new sensory needs, this is one of the most unique sensory friendly activities in St. Pete.

What to Expect on Sensory Saturday

  • A calm and welcoming check-in experience

  • Flexibility to roam, pause, and revisit spaces as needed

  • Staff trained to be supportive and responsive to guest needs

  • Fewer crowds during early hours (check our calendar for timing)

Sensory Saturday isn’t a limited-access version of FloridaRAMA, it’s the same delightfully weird, immersive art space, simply offered through a more inclusive lens.

More Than Just the Exhibits

After exploring, take a moment to browse The Tourist Trap, our on-site gift shop featuring local art, Florida oddities, and quirky keepsakes. Like the rest of your visit, it’s designed to be explored at your own pace.

We want every visitor to feel like they belong here, not just on Sensory Saturday, but every day. But this special program gives us the opportunity to more directly celebrate and support our neurodiverse community.
