Artist of the Month: Kayla Heintz, One of Our Favorite St. Pete Artists

Now Featured at The Tourist Trap Gift Shop – July 2025

This July, The Tourist Trap is thrilled to feature Kayla Heintz as our Artist of the Month! A professional acrylic artist based right here in sunny St. Pete, FL, Kayla brings an unforgettable mix of science fiction, fantasy, and Florida flora to our walls, and we’re totally here for it.

Her Exhibit: The Mysterious Meets the Botanical

Retro motel in lush greenery with neon sign, UFO beaming light, flamingos in a pond, "Danger Keep Out" sign, and vibrant colors, by artist Kayla Heintz.

Don’t miss Kayla’s captivating diorama in our exhibit space. This immersive piece pulls you into an alternate Florida where wild nature reclaims the forgotten, and unexplained phenomena peek out from behind the palmettos. Think native plants, glowing lights, UFO sightings, and the creeping feeling that you’ve stumbled onto something just a little too strange to explain.

"When viewers experience this piece," Kayla says, "I want them to feel a connection to the natural beauty of Florida’s native flora and fauna, as well as a sense of unease and fascination with the overgrown and forgotten spaces that exist just off the beaten path."

Mission accomplished.

Kayla’s work is inspired by her deep love of nature and its ability to blur the lines between what is known and what remains mysterious. Her colorful, mystical art captures the spirit of childlike wonder, infused with just enough eerie detail to keep you coming back for a second look.

Drawing inspiration from Florida’s diverse landscapes and her passion for botany, Kayla creates scenes that feel like they could only happen in the magical margins of reality.
