Originally from NY, Calan Ree has called St. Pete, FL home for over 25 years. Her ceramic sculptures have been shown and collected internationally. Her work can be described as haunting yet sweet. Ree uses dichotomy to reach the viewer on a subconscious level. Says Calan, “I like to tug at the viewer’s heart strings. Whether it brings to mind a personal memory, a deep emotion or simply a smile, the art’s ability to stir something in the viewer is evidence of a human connection we all share; a connection that is undeniably beautiful.” When she isn’t working in clay , Calan is illustrating, teaching ceramics at the Hive Community Clay and the Tampa Museum of Art and working with NOMAD Art Studio delivering trauma informed, creative engagements to children living in stressful, high transition environments.
